Youth Challenge Australia’s (YCA) Volunteers In Community Engagement (VoICE) program offers skilled young Australians the opportunity to volunteer in India on short-term placements. Participants will work alongside YCA’s partner organisations, local counterparts, and local communities to build the capacity and strengthen the sustainability of local

development initiatives.

The successful candidate will assist the Narango disability trainer to design and run a range of activities to address the need for support and information surrounding people with disabilities. Working in basic conditions with little resources the candidate will work directly with people with disabilities offering various educational sessions and

physiotherapy. They will deal with a range of ages and disabilities and provide support and help. The candidate will also ensure that the lack of information surrounding disabilities is addressed by travelling to communities to run workshops and information sessions.

Please be aware that the duties listed may change depending on the needs at the time, and you may be asked to assist in other duties which are not listed below. Selected candidates are required to be extremely flexible and willing to provide support in any area that is needed. This position is a voluntary basis with living allowance, subject to probation

period. Commencing February 2012.

Project Duties:

The successful candidate will work as a member of staff at the Lalkoko Primary School. They will split their time between teaching Sport and helping establish the newly built library. The candidate, working with little equipment, will run daily sport activities, in conjunction with their Ni-Vanuatu counterpart, that will involve the whole school and they

will focus on making sport a regular part of the school day again. They will also spend time in the new library helping to set it up, put systems in place to ensure the library is well used and taken care of. In addition the candidate will spend some time researching funding opportunities and writing proposals to assist the school in gaining further

funding to build more classrooms and to get more books for the library. Some simple administrative tasks may also be required by the headmaster as well as classroom assistance.
