The National Advisory Board on Climate Change and Disaster Risk Reduction (NAB) is Vanuatu’s principal policy making and advisory body for disaster risk reduction and climate change programs and activities. The NAB seeks highly motivated and dedicated people to join its newly established Project Management Unit based in the Vanuatu

Meteorology and Geo-Hazards department in Port Vila. This is an exciting opportunity to manage the delivery of a large-scale National Adaption and disaster Risk Reduction Project designed to address Vanuatu’s immediate climate change adaption needs and mitigate natural disaster risks. Contract is for one year, renewable up to three years.

Duties and responsibilities:

1) Will support the Vanuatu Meteorology and Geo-Hazards Department (VMGD) and the National Disaster Management Office (NDMO) is disaster risk reduction and climate change adaptation integration activities under the Mainstreaming Disaster Risk Reduction in Vanuatu Project

2) Will provide technical advice to VMGD on the establishment of the Project Management Unit and NAB and facilitate and support the development of partnership agreements and project procurement

Interested applicant must possess the following:

Criteria:

- At least three years experience in a similar role, including providing DRR and CCA policy advice, and preferably experience with donor financed programs

- Completion of a university degree in environment and management or other relevant field

- Good knowledge of the work of VMGD and NDMO in Vanuatu

- Good understanding of Vanuatu Government procedures and processes; Ability to work with a range of agencies at national, provincial and local level

- Excellent writing communication and inter-personal skills, including fluency in Bislama and English.
