Organisation Description
Farm Support Association (FSA) is a not-for-profit, non-government organization set up in 1982. FSA supports and responds to the needs of small holder farmers, helping them to practice farming as business on their own land in the rural areas. FSA promotes environmentally-friendly, sustainable, organic techniques. Its approach is one of “Farmers helping farmers”.
Working in partnership with other agencies such as Oxfam, UNDP and MFAT New Zealand, FSA delivers various programmes through its agricultural extension officers and lead farmers. Data about individual farmers and groups are held in Excel worksheets, together with details of their plans, field visits, materials distributed and workshops attended. This information is then used to establish support needed in future visits.
FSA is also responsible for the certification of organic farmers in Vanuatu, through the Organic Pasifika scheme run by PoetCom (see http://www.organicpasifika.com/poetcom/the-certification/organic-pasifika-certification/). Details of registered farmers and their inspections are collected and held by FSA.
