About the Research

A partnership between Save the Children, Deakin University, and Disability Promotion & Advocacy Association Vanuatu (DPA) is undertaking research - Voices of Pacific children with disabilities - to learn more about children with disabilities and what is important to them. By understanding the priorities, concerns and aspirations of children with disabilities in Vanuatu SC, the

Government and other service providers will be able to design and deliver policy and programming that is more disability inclusive.

This project involves listening to children with disabilities, their parents or guardians as well as local community members and community leaders. The research team will invite children with disabilities and their families in Port Vila, and other communities to participate.

About the role

The Research Project Officer will be accountable for the following core activities:

• Assisting with reporting research findings to participating children, families and communities.

• Assisting with the development of a manual to assist parents of children with disabilities with their care and health needs.

• Maintaining good working relationships with the members of the research partnership.

• The position requires someone who is comfortable working alongside people with disabilities.

Job Description:

The Vanuatu Meteorological and Geo-hazard Department (VMGD) and National Diaster Management Office (NDMO) have secured funding from the World Bank for two large-scale national adaptation and disaster risk reduction projects designed to address Vanuatu's immediate climate change adaptation needs and mitigate natural disaster risks.

The main task of the Gis Specialist is to support strengthening capacity of the IRCCNH project components and their respective implementing Agencies (IA) to produce maps supporting projects activities and project developments. The consulatnt will be responsible for providing advice on the framework for collecting, managing and disseminating existing spatial data, also for structuring

and training on geo-referencing of the data; developing the GIS database and standard operation procedures. them to use, maintain and update the database.



The GIS Specialist will be contracted for 40 days, and be based in the VMGD Project Management Unit.
