Job Description:

Jastis Blong Evriwan (JBE) is part of a World Bank multi-country research and development program that seeks to improve the effectiveness of broader development efforts by addressing the justice and conflict— resolution aspects of their work. It is an approach that;

• sees justice from the perspective of local communities;

• is based on in—depth understanding of the social and cultural context;

• recognizes the importance of demand in promoting equitable development;

• and understands justice as a cross-sectoral issue.



Locality studies on access to justice, local governance, and land and natural resource management will be the cornerstone the JBE program’s initial research.



The program is currently looking for potential researchers to join the JBL research team in carrying out in-depth field studies in selected communities throughout Vanuatu. The researchers will be based in Port Vila but will require travel to outer islands and extensive stay in remote communities.

Primary Responsibilities of the Researchers:

• Assist in planning, organising and conducting field research activities

• Provide insights into the findings of field research, using substantial local knowledge (political, institutional, cultural etc...)

• Assist in authoring research reports, briefing notes, policy papers and other materials as required.

• Assist with dissemination of program findings to relevant stakeholders.


This position is open to ni-Vanuatu nationals only for an initial period of 6 months (with a possibility of extension)

Criteria:

- Experience, knowledge and interest in community—oriented programs

- Experience in conducting and analyzing field research Experience in conducting and analyzing field research

- Excellent communication skills

- Ability to work as a team in achieving project targets

- Basic knowledge of computer programs; Flexibility and availability to travel to outer islands for field work
