| | The Office of the public solicitor is seeking to recruit a suitably qualified ni-vanuatu person to the post of legal officer for its port vila office to start immediately. Duties and responsibilities: |
| | 1) To provide high level representation to needy people in criminal and civil proceedings, in the magistrates’ courts, supreme court and the appeal court of vanuatu, to provide supervision and leadership to the assistant legal officers of the office |
| | 2) Civil law services representing people in civil claims and court actions |
| | 3) Criminal law services representing people in court hearing |
| | 4) Court assistance for women seeking apprehended violence orders |
| | 5) Family Law mediation and mediation in civil matters |
| | Interested applicant must have the following requirements: |
| | Criteria: |
| | - Must possess a degree in law; Be admitted to practice law in vanuatu; Have knowledge of the government system of administration and Law related matters; Good analysis, advocacy, problem solving & legal |
| | research skills, good time management & organizational skills; Ability to supervise junior legal staff; Possess excellent written and oral communication skills with ability to communicate with people from |
| | diverse backgrounds, distressed clients and social and economical disadvantaged people |
| | - Have the ability to quickly analyze documents about civil law and procedure; Have ability to prioritize tasks and work under pressure; Knowledge of public solicitors act and policies; Must be willing to work |
| | outside normal working hours or travel when required; Must be fluent in english, or french and bislama. |
