Nicon Shipping is a Vanuatu-based inter-island shipping and freight company operating from Luganville, Espiritu Santo. We provide essential cargo and transport services connecting Santo with communities throughout Vanuatu, supported by our own vessels, experienced crews and marine maintenance facilities.
Job Desctiption:
The Ship Captain is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of the vessel and for representing Nicon Shipping while at sea and in port. The Captain leads and manages the crew, ensures all staff carry out their duties correctly, maintains discipline and communication onboard, and ensures Nicon Shipping procedures are followed.
The Captain is also responsible for vessel safety, crew and passenger safety, safe loading and operations, emergency preparedness, and maintaining a strong health and safety culture onboard.

Role of the Ship Captain
The Ship Captain is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of the vessel and for leading and managing the crew in accordance with Nicon Shipping procedures.
The role requires proven experience managing vessel crews, maintaining discipline, coordinating deck and cargo operations, following voyage manifests, supervising loading and unloading, and directing cargo deliveries at each destination.
The Captain must also oversee navigation, vessel stability, safe mooring and anchoring, weather and voyage planning, emergency procedures, radio communications, logbooks and operational records, and ensure all health, safety and maritime requirements are followed onboard.
ssential Requirements
• Must hold a current Master 500 GT Certificate of Competency or higher
• Must have proven experience commanding commercial vessels and managing crew
• Must be experienced in cargo operations, manifests and directing deliveries
• Must have strong knowledge of vessel safety, navigation and emergency procedures
• Must be available and willing to work Saturdays and Sundays as required by vessel schedules and operations
• Must be reliable, professional and able to lead a crew effectively
