Job Desctiption:
The Finance Manager runs the day-to-day finances of luxury resort. The role keeps the books accurate and on time, protects the resort's assets through sound controls, and gives the Managing Director clear monthly reporting against budget.
It is a hands-on, on-site role in a small team: the Finance Manager both does the work and supervises the Receivables and Payables staff.
Key responsibilities
Reporting and budgeting
• Prepare monthly management reports of actual vs. budget for the Managing Director.
• Communicate regularly with the Managing Director on financial position and issues.
• Assist the Managing Director to develop and monitor the annual operating and capital budgets.
• Analyse financial performance, identify cost savings, and advise management on financial
strategy.
Accounting and month-end
• Oversee day-to-day accounting, budgeting, forecasting and financial reporting.
• Reconcile control accounts between Room Master and the general ledger at month end.
• Prepare monthly standard journals.
• Review bank transactions to confirm all entries are recorded by Receivables and Payables.
• Review VAT return items, ensuring the correct VAT code is applied to all purchases.
• Prepare and maintain the fixed asset register.
• Liaise with the Financial Controller on year-end accounts and audit working papers.
Payroll and people
• Prepare fortnightly wages and monthly VNPF returns.
• Maintain annual leave records and entitlement balances.
• Supervise, train and evaluate the Receivables and Payables staff.
Cash, procurement and cost control
• Manage cash flow, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll oversight and banking
relationships.
• Oversee procurement controls, monthly inventory valuation and cost control procedures.
• Liaise with the General Manager and F&B Manager on food and beverage purchasing.
• Liaise with the Maintenance Supervisor on the cost of repairs.
• Monitor beverage, spa, extra guest services, and tours and activities sales against occupancy.
Controls, compliance and administration
• Implement and maintain internal controls to safeguard the resort's assets.
• Implement and maintain VSMS compliance.
• Assist the Managing Director with annual licences and insurance information.
• Proactively support system and software changes as required.
• Perform other reasonable duties consistent with the position.
Qualifications, experience and skills
Essential
• Degree in accounting, finance or commerce.
• At least 3–5 years in a finance role, including month-end close, reconciliations and payroll.
• Experience supervising accounts staff.
• Strong working knowledge of cloud accounting software and Excel.
• Sound understanding of VAT, internal controls and audit preparation.
• High integrity, discretion and attention to detail.
• Clear written and spoken English.
Selection Criteria:
-CPA or equivalent professional qualification.
-Hotel or resort finance experience, including a property management system such as Room
Master.
-Experience with Vanuatu or Pacific payroll, VNPF and VAT.
-Experience with inventory and F&B cost control.
-Comfortable living and working at a remote island resort.
Salary:
VT 370,000–375,000 per month net
